ROUTER
1. Router is an intelligent device.2. Router routes between networks.
3. Router is Layer 3 device.
4. Router takes forwarding decision onn the basis of destination IP address.
5. Routing table is layer 3 table and hence router is layer 3 device.
6. Routing entries in routing table can be populated statically by an admin or dynamically by routing protocol.
7. Router routes between networks and hence every port of router has to belong to different network.
8. No two interfaces of a router can ever belong to same network.
9. Router is a dedicated Bandwidth device.
10. Every port of router is a member of separate collision/Broadcast domain.
11. Router is multiple collision/Broadcast domain device.
12. By default routing table of each router contain information of only those network which are directly connected to it.
13. So information of other network which are not directly connected to the router can be added statically by network admin or dynamically by routing protocol.
14. Router support both serial and Ethernet technology.
Types of Routing
1. Static Routing
2. Default Routing
3. Dynamic Routing
